Dr. Sue Cotter is the guest on this interview episode of Sandbox Stories. I was fortunate to be her student at ICO, when she was beginning her career in academics.
Today she is a Professor at the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University. Her leadership in the profession includes long-term service to the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) where she now serves as President-Elect. She is currently Co-Chair of the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group of the NIH.
Her path into academics as “accidental” but she had incredible role models that drew her into a career in binocular vision. Dr. Cotter speaks strongly about the importance of informing optometry students about the value of careers in academics. She is an advocate for membership and participation in the AAO. And we cover some interesting personal points of view - from one of her favorite authors to a very claustrophobic scuba lesson!
